There, next to the formidable old city wall, were several small eateries, one of them a very welcome icecream shop.

There are also carefully excavated and preserved foundations of the original settlers

A wall like this, studded with cannons and manned by Portugese soldiers, might have proven a serious deterrant, until political changes reduced the town's standing to irrelevance.
